Pearl Jam Lean

Description

Kevin Westenberg

PEARL JAM. Live lean 1, LOLLAPALOOZA 2. BREMERTON. WASH. July 27, 1992.

Since Pearl Jam has just released their first new album in the last 4 years, ‘Dark Matter’ and will also going out on the road for the next year, this photo, one of the rare ones that gains in stature year by year from the old baggy shorts days is making the rounds again on some of the multitude of Pearl Jam fan sites. I am the only and original author of this photograph and have been offering this original edition print for at least a decade now….as opposed to the cheap and illegal posters that went around the world back in the 90’s, this is the real deal.

Backstory: I was covering this second year of the LOLLAPALOOZA tour for the Melody Maker. During this time, I was also working for SOUNDGARDEN, also on the bill. This was 1992 and both SG and PEARL JAM were still in their infancy. The fun years. The other bands this summer also included the RHCP, Ministry, Ice Cube, the Jesus and Mary Chain and Lush. Big Party back before video Smart Phones and all the other intrusive monitoring devices that modern day musicians have to deal with.

The hair was long and the shorts were baggy. Pure Grunge. This shot was just an accident as usually shooting at big events with even bigger stages means you get nothing but the obligatory shot of the back of some rock stars head and the crowd. Ho hum. If EDDIE hadn’t momentarily leant all his weight on Jeff Ament in this way and I was a foot or two to either side, none of this would have worked. Now finally, this is available and overseen by me as a very limited edition large format proper limited edition print run.
