Description
Shot by Charles when Amy was 19, before the release of her debut album 'Frank'.
"It became pretty clear to Amy and I that all plans were off, the giant storm
forming over NYC was going to leave us high and dry, or should I say sodden and
stuck. After deciding there was not much to do, Amy and I sat in my cousins’
studio apartment at the Ritz Tower; it was on loan to me from my very kind
cousin Dan while he was in California. We had picked up some cheap food and
wine from a bodega on Lexington Avenue, and while we sat there (Amy with
curlers in her hair) I decided there was no time like the present and started to
take pictures.
By now a friend had arrived to say hello, and was the perfect distraction from my lens. In the background some of Amy’s demos from ‘Frank’ played. Amy had come directly from recording with Commissioner Gordon in New Jersey. Some tracks were just single instrument, or vocal, and at points you got a better idea of the whole. Amy and her producers were clearly in the midst of creation".
